Pope Francis recently reflected on the importance of unity between father and mother within the family, stating that children suffer greatly when this unity is broken. In one of his catecheses, the Supreme Pontiff recalled that 'children need this unity of father and mother together.' He emphasized that the Holy Spirit can renew the capacity for giving in marriage, transforming routine into a new shared joy.
During his message, the Pope highlighted the relevance of the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of marriage, urging couples to invoke it to strengthen their union and create an atmosphere of love and respect in the home. He explained that Christian marriage is an act of mutual donation, where each spouse gives themselves to the other, thus reflecting the communion of love that is the Trinity.
Francis stressed the importance of forming a united front as a couple, including the children in that family nucleus. He underscored that children are those who suffer the most when the parents' relationship deteriorates, drawing attention to the negative effects that marital discord has on them. In this sense, the Pope mentioned that the Holy Spirit has the power to renew the marital union, turning routine into a new source of shared joy.
Additionally, the Holy Father emphasized that unity in marriage is a challenge in today’s society, but it is essential for the well-being of families. He warned about the dangers of building family relationships on weak foundations, as, according to his teachings, it is the children who suffer the most from the lack of love and harmony in the home. In this context, the Pope recalled the Italian proverb that suggests not to intervene between husband and wife, highlighting the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to act in married life.
