The Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, dismissed speculation about a possible resignation of Pope Francis, whose health has deteriorated in recent hours. Parolin called these assumptions "useless" and stated that he is unaware of any maneuver regarding this.
"These are useless speculations. Honestly, I must say that I do not know if there are such maneuvers and, in any case, I try to stay out of it," the cardinal expressed. He also pointed out the importance of protecting the Pope and limiting visits so that he can rest and receive the medical treatment he is undergoing more effectively.
Parolin emphasized that the priority at this moment is the health and swift recovery of the Holy Father, stressing that this is the only relevant issue. In response to reports suggesting a resignation of the Pontiff, the cardinal went out to refute them and emphasized the need to focus on the Pope's health.
In statements to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Parolin acknowledged that in situations like this, the spread of uncontrolled rumors or inappropriate comments is common, highlighting the importance of maintaining calm and prudence during these delicate moments.
