Media reports on Friday stated that a man in the city of Turin, northern Italy, choked to death while eating a traditional Christmas panettone cake. According to the coroner, it appears that a piece of cake and a slice of orange blocked his airway. His family immediately alerted emergency services, which arrived within minutes, but the man (47 years old) could not be saved. Many people expressed their condolences on social media, referring to a post on Facebook attributed to the deceased's brother, which read: "You will always remain in our hearts." Panettone is a bread-like cake made from yeast, eggs, fruit, and butter, and is typically eaten at Christmas.
