Mattarella Defends Italy's Sovereignty Against Musk's Remarks

The Italian president, Sergio Mattarella, issued a strong response to the criticisms from American businessman Elon Musk towards Italian judges. In an official statement, Mattarella stated that Italy is a democratic country that respects its Constitution and its sovereignty, urging that those who hold important positions in allied countries should do the same.

The conflict arose after Musk lashed out at the Italian judges for opposing the migration strategy of the far-right Giorgia Meloni in Albania. In a social media message, Musk urged the judges to resign. The magnate's criticisms raised concerns in Italy, being labeled as "dangerous" by some sectors.

The Court of Rome recently decided to suspend the detention of seven migrants in the controversial centers opened by Meloni in Albania. This measure halted the plans of the far-right leader and sparked a debate about the legality of the actions implemented in migration policy.

In this scenario, Matteo Salvini, Meloni's partner in the Italian Government, congratulated Musk on his appointment in the administration of Donald Trump. However, Giorgia Meloni chose not to comment on the billionaire's statements, whom she considers a "friend".

Amid the controversy, the elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, appointed Musk to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, generating a new aspect of tension in the relations between Italy and the United States.
