Pope Francis, known for his dedication to the most vulnerable, met with a group of children this Sunday at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. In a written message, he expressed his affection for them, calling them "the most beautiful caress."
The event was organized by Reverend Fortunato, president of the Pontifical Committee for World Children's Day. Fortunato pointed out that the presence of children alongside their parents was a form of spiritual medicine for Pope Francis, 88 years old, who is undergoing a recovery process following double pneumonia.
Although the Pope's health has improved and is no longer considered critical, doctors continue to monitor his condition due to his age and previous respiratory issues. Despite this, Pope Francis sent a message of gratitude to the children who gathered to offer him affection and good wishes.
Children from countries affected by conflicts and poverty, as well as from disadvantaged districts in Italy, approached the Gemelli Hospital with balloons and messages of support for the Pope. Through simple gestures like drawings and flowers, they expressed their wish for a swift recovery for the Pontiff.
The international community has also shown support for Pope Francis during his hospitalization, recognizing his role as a leader not only religiously but also as a symbol of peace and unity. Although he has not been seen in public since his admission to the hospital in February, it is hoped that he will continue with his recovery process, which is showing gradual improvements, according to reports from the Vatican.
