The crew of the Ocean Viking, operated by the humanitarian and maritime rescue organization SOS Mediterranée, carried out a rescue operation in the Mediterranean Sea last Monday. During this operation, 108 people were saved from two overloaded fiberglass boats near the coasts of Libya. Among the rescued was a baby only 11 months old.
According to the information provided by the NGO, the rescue was successfully carried out, providing assistance to all migrants in danger at sea. The condition of the boats was critical, and thanks to the intervention of SOS Mediterranée, a greater tragedy was avoided.
One of the most sensitive cases was that of the 11-month-old baby, who was rescued safe and sound along with the other migrants. This rescue once again highlights the difficult reality faced by thousands of people who embark on dangerous journeys across the Mediterranean in search of a better life.
Rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea continue to be essential to prevent human tragedies and provide assistance to those who risk their lives in search of an opportunity. The work of organizations like SOS Mediterranée is crucial amid this unrelenting migration crisis in the region.
