Pope Francis, currently hospitalized at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome due to bilateral pneumonia, may consider resigning in case of serious difficulties to continue his service, according to Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi. Despite this, the pope's primary desire is to fulfill at least the Jubilee, a holy year that he perceives as a pivotal moment.
Francis's health has shown slight improvement, with no fever and stable hemodynamic parameters, as reported by the recent medical update. Ravasi praised the extraordinary presence of the pope in the world, despite his physical limitations and advanced age, even comparing it to that of John Paul II.
On the other hand, faithful from all over the world continue to pilgrimage to St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican to participate in the Jubilee and pray for Francis's swift recovery. Despite the sadness of not being able to see him in person, pilgrims express hope and confidence that the pope will recover soon and be able to continue his work.
Francis, in a gesture of transparency, had already signed a letter of resignation at the beginning of his papacy, following the example of Paul VI. Ravasi highlighted the clarity with which the pope's health conditions have been communicated and the importance of decision-making in case the difficulties worsen.
The cardinal also mentioned the spread of false rumors about Francis's health, pointing out an anti-Bergoglio current particularly present on the internet and in American media, expressed through fake news and vague expectations of change.
