Heavy Rain Causes Evacuations in Tuscany

The authorities of Tuscany have asked dozens of people to evacuate their homes after heavy rain caused river overflow and flooded streets not far from the historic towns of Florence and Pisa.

Local official, Eugenio Giani, stated that due to the red meteorological warning, people need to exercise "maximum caution and vigilance" due to "heavy and prolonged rainfall." The fire service published photographs of cars partially submerged in water in the commune of Cisto Fiorentino in northern Florence.

Giani urged residents to stay away from lower-floor buildings. Dozens of people were evacuated with the help of firefighters from the low-lying wooden buildings of Pisa, according to the Italian agency Ansa.
