Italian horse racing legend Frankie Dettori (54) has announced his retirement from the sport. He made the announcement via his personal social media accounts following the Breeders' Cup races in the United States on Saturday. "I have been privileged to compete at the highest level in this sport for over four decades and I am grateful to my family, owners, trainers, stable staff, and of course the fans who made me successful," Dettori wrote. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who encouraged and supported me on this amazing journey". After a 40-year career, he wrote: "I will be retiring from horse racing after the Breeders' Cup on Saturday and will be ending my career in Latin America, something I have wanted to do for a long time". Dettori began his career at the age of 13 after moving to the UK in 1985.
