The chairman of the arbitration committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Pierluigi Collina expressed concern regarding the bias that referees may face in football matches, both on the field and in online environments, referring to this as "a poisonous crab capable of destroying football." In an interview for Sky Sports, Collina stated that the problem affects football at the level of amateurs, youth leagues, and professional levels, while clubs and trainers also face the bias of referees.

"It has never been easy, so I can say that the current situation is worse than it ever has been," said former Italian referee, a legend in the field of officiating.

Collina also noted the conspiracy theories and internet campaigns that make the situation even worse compared to the times when social networks did not exist.
