The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, turned to his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi to express protest against Israeli attacks on its soldiers and UNIFIL infrastructure in Lebanon. Tajani emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safety of UNIFIL personnel and insisted on the 'immediacy' of the attacks.

In the Italian statement, it was noted that Ashkenazi 'underscored the need for an immediate investigation' into the incident involving an unexploded artillery shell. The UN mission in Lebanon, including 10 thousand soldiers, was established by a resolution of the Security Council.

Italy stated today that the artillery shell fell on the base of Italian troops in the mission of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, and promised Israel to conduct an investigation into this matter.
