In 2022, Alton Mason made his acting debut in the film "Elvis" directed by Baz Luhrmann. Following that, in January 2019, he dazzled at the Louis Vuitton Menswear Fall/Winter 2019 fashion show, where he wore a striking outfit inspired by Jojo's and designed by Boss, which included an extra-long cape.
Giorno Giovanna, a character from the series "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" written by Hirohiko Araki, was the inspiration behind Mason's outfit. Giorno is the protagonist of part 5 of the saga, set in Naples, Italy, in 2001. David Production, the studio responsible for adapting the manga into anime, announced in April that they were working on a new season titled "Steel Ball Run."
The 2025 Met Gala had the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," an exhibition that highlighted Afro-descendant designers and menswear. The event emphasized black dandyism and the cultural influence of Afro-descendants in menswear from the 18th century to the present.
Guest curator Monica L. Miller designed the exhibition, focusing on black dandyism and its history. In this context, Alton Mason, a 27-year-old supermodel from Nebraska, surprised the audience by walking the Met Gala 2025 runway in an outfit inspired by a character from "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure."
Mason expressed his fondness for anime and referred to the character Giorno from the anime in a brief interview. The outfit he wore included a wide-brimmed hat, tailored shirt and trousers, matching boots, a shiny eye patch, and an oversized jacket incorporating elements of the anime. He highlighted the open-heart cut in the shirt as a nod to the mentioned anime character.
Alton Mason became the first Afro-descendant model to walk for Chanel in 2018, and in 2019 left a lasting impression at the Louis Vuitton show by doing flips on the runway.
