Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Tuesday the suspension of the Italian defense agreement with Israel, which includes the exchange of military equipment and technology research. Speaking at an event in Verona, Meloni stated that, due to the current situation, the government has decided to suspend the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel. An Italian diplomatic source confirmed the suspension of the agreement, considering that maintaining it would have been politically difficult. Italy approved the defense agreement in 2006, and its term was approaching expiration, subject to automatic renewal every five years. The agreement regulates cooperation between the two countries in the defense industries, research, information technology, and military training.
