The young Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (3rd) achieved an important victory in the ATP Finals by defeating the Russian Andrey Rublev (8th) with a score of 6-3 and 7-6(8). The match lasted one hour and 36 minutes, thus consolidating his position in the tournament that brings together the eight best players on the circuit.
This victory puts Alcaraz in a good position for his upcoming match against the German Alexander Zverev (2nd), who recently won the Paris Masters 1000. Alcaraz, competing in the ATP Finals for the second time, demonstrated a level of play superior to that shown in his debut, where he lost to Casper Ruud (6th).
In the first set, Alcaraz achieved two consecutive breaks in the seventh and ninth games, taking an early lead on the scoreboard. The second set was more contested, but the Spaniard managed to keep his cool in crucial moments to claim victory.
In his first participation in the ATP Finals in 2023, Alcaraz reached the semifinals, where he was eliminated by Novak Djokovic. On the other hand, Rublev, who had lost his first match against Zverev, is now practically eliminated from the tournament and needs a miraculous result to advance to the semifinals.
The ATP Finals day will continue later with the match between Zverev and Ruud, scheduled for no earlier than 16:30.
