A trip to the Red Sea by an Italian couple turned into an unusual incident after Italian authorities learned they had left their five children home alone to enjoy a holiday in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. According to Italian media, a teacher at one of the children's schools suspected they were being left alone. She was alerted by photos the couple had posted on social media during their holiday. One of the children apparently explained the situation at home to the teacher. Subsequently, the youth services, along with the police, went to the family's apartment in the Italian city of Trieste. As reported by the Italian ANSA news agency, the suspicions were confirmed. Five children, aged between eight and 17, had been living alone for four days. They managed the household themselves and continued to go to school without missing classes. Ultimately, the authorities intervened, removing the children and placing them in a care institution.
