Italian Psychic to Face Trial for Fraud

Famous psychic Gisella Cardia and her husband will be tried for deceiving followers with 'false miracles'. They are accused of collecting donations under the pretext of falsified apparitions of the Virgin Mary.

Italian court has ordered controversial psychic Gisella Cardia and her husband Gianni Cardia to stand trial. They are accused of defrauding followers with 'false miracles'. Gisella Cardia, known for announcing 'apparitions' of the Virgin Mary in Trevignano and claiming to multiply the size of pizzas, will be tried in April. According to the prosecution, since 2016, the couple has created a cult, collecting donations by allegedly predicting 'future cataclysms' and falsifying 'apparitions of the Virgin Mary'. In 2024, the Vatican's Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith rejected Cardia's apparitions, finding no 'supernatural' elements. They are accused of collecting up to 365,000 euros from followers, which was not used for the charitable purposes stated in the association's statute. The trial will begin on April 7 at the Civitavecchia court.
