Pope Francis expressed his love and gratitude towards the children who visited the Gemelli hospital on Sunday, where he is hospitalized, as part of an event organized by the Pontifical Committee for World Children's Day. About three hundred children from various schools, associations, and institutions gathered outside the hospital with balloons, drawings, and letters to give to the Pontiff, who received expressions of affection and calls of "Pope Francis" with the hope that he could greet them.
In a statement issued by the Vatican, Pope Francis thanked the children for their closeness and prayers, highlighting the importance of faith and mutual support in times of pain. The Pontiff also acknowledged the work of those who provide medical assistance with dedication.
On February 14, Pope Francis was admitted to the hospital due to respiratory issues and was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia from which he is currently recovering, although he still requires oxygen and mechanical ventilation. This Sunday, the first photo of the Pontiff since his hospitalization was released, showing him in a wheelchair participating in the morning mass in the hospital chapel.
Despite the side photo, the Pope's nasal cannulas for oxygen are not visible. The health status of the Pontiff remains stable, receiving respiratory treatment and continuing with therapy sessions. Pope Francis, through a written message, acknowledged that he is going through a moment of trial and expressed solidarity with all sick people, highlighting the importance of keeping faith and love alive even in situations of physical weakness.
