Pope Francis Shows Signs of Improvement in Hospital

Pope Francis's health has experienced a "slight improvement" during his hospitalization for bilateral pneumonia and recently detected renal insufficiency. Doctors have reported that some laboratory tests have shown improvements, and the renal insufficiency, which was classified as "mild," is not a concern at this time. The Pope continues with oxygen therapy, although with slightly reduced flows compared to previous days.

The medical specialists caring for the pontiff have preferred to keep a cautious prognosis due to the complexity of his clinical picture. Despite this, this morning the Pope received the Eucharist at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome and resumed some of his work activities in the afternoon. He has also maintained telephone contact with the parish priest from the Gaza Strip to express his closeness.

Pope Francis's health had worsened last Saturday when he suffered an episode of asthmatic respiratory crisis requiring high flows of oxygen. Additionally, an initial and mild renal insufficiency was detected, which is being monitored. He was also experiencing thrombocytopenia and anemia, which necessitated transfusions of concentrated red blood cells.

Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, will preside over the Rosary for the Pope's health tonight in St. Peter’s Square, with the presence of cardinals and members of the Roman Curia. The faithful and supporters have been showing their support by leaving flowers and candles at the doors of the Gemelli Hospital.

The Vatican's statement concluded by thanking the prayers and expressions of support from the faithful: "The Pope thanks all the people of God who have come together to pray for his health in these days." Pope Francis's condition remains critical, but encouraging signs have been observed in his recovery.
