Pope Francis Hospitalized: Health Update

The health status of Pope Francis has forced the cancellation of the jubilee audience scheduled for Saturday, February 22, as well as postponing his presidency at Sunday Mass, according to the Holy See. The pontiff, who has been hospitalized since Friday due to a polymicrobial respiratory infection, presented a complex clinical picture that required his hospitalization at least until Wednesday.

Despite previous health issues, such as hip and knee ailments, surgeries, and respiratory infections, the Argentine Pope has maintained an intense work schedule in the Vatican. This is Jorge Bergoglio's fourth hospitalization in less than four years, raising concerns about his health.

In a recent statement, the Vatican requested prayers for Pope Francis and thanked for the messages of affection and closeness he has received. Despite being hospitalized, it has been reported that the Supreme Pontiff is stable and does not have a fever. However, all his scheduled commitments for the upcoming weekend have been canceled due to the need to continue his hospitalization.

On the fifth day of hospitalization, information about the Pope's health was updated, confirming that he has bilateral pneumonia, which will prolong his stay at the clinic in Rome. Although his condition is stable and he continues with the prescribed therapy, adequate hospitalization is required to treat his complex clinical picture.

During his hospitalization, the Pope has received the Eucharist, read texts, and has been grateful for the messages of support received from those also hospitalized. The Vatican continues to provide updates on Francisco's health, indicating that he will remain under medical care while he recovers.
