Rome, Dec 18 (EFE).- American actor Kevin Spacey will return to the small screen on December 26 with the Italian comedy series 'Minimarket', which will premiere on the streaming service of public broadcaster RAI.
This will be his first TV series since leaving the famous 'House of Cards' in 2017, when he was fired following allegations of sexual abuse.
Spacey, a 66-year-old two-time Oscar winner for 'American Beauty' (1999) and 'The Usual Suspects' (1995), was one of Hollywood's most respected actors until the first allegations against him emerged.
The actor was subsequently acquitted of nine sexual offense charges in the UK and won a civil lawsuit in the USA.
In 'Minimarket', Spacey plays the role of an unconventional mentor to Manlio Viganò (Filippo Laganà), a young man working in a small grocery store in Rome who dreams of becoming a TV star.
Spacey's character is his imaginary friend and mentor, who appears as an unwavering presence, acting as the young man's 'artistic conscience'. The relationship between them has a comedic tone: while Spacey brings his vast experience as a Hollywood veteran, the naive Manlio is not aware that he is being guided by an Oscar winner.
The ten-episode series, which mixes humor with surreal moments, will premiere on RaiPlay on December 26 with the first five episodes, and the second part of the season will arrive on January 9.
Since the outbreak of the scandal over abuse allegations, Spacey has participated in few projects, but has filmed three films in recent years: '1780' (2025), 'Gore' which was ultimately canceled, and 'The Awakening', which will be released in the coming months.
It is noted that the series is related to an insinuation of unwanted sexual harassment that occurred in 1986.
