Collapse of historical tower in Rome

Today, a section of the Torre dei Conti, a medieval tower under restoration in the center of Rome, collapsed, injuring four workers and triggering an emergency rescue operation, local media reported. The collapse occurred during restoration work and was followed by another partial collapse that took place as firefighters were conducting rescue operations, releasing a large cloud of dust but causing no further injuries among emergency teams, according to the Italian news agency Ansa: four workers were involved in the incident. A 64-year-old man was rescued alive from the rubble and taken to the hospital in critical condition with a head injury, while another worker remained trapped but conscious, according to health sources. Two other workers suffered minor injuries and refused hospitalization. Firefighters deployed three teams, two ladder trucks, and specialized rescue units at the scene. Pedestrian and vehicular access to the surrounding area has been restricted to facilitate rescue and security operations. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse.
