Heavy Rains Affect Iconic Fountains in Rome

Recent heavy rains in Rome have caused mud to flow into the water channels, affecting the famous fountains in Piazza Navona. The city has taken immediate action to clean and restore the fountains to their original state.

Heavy Rains Affect Iconic Fountains in Rome

"The Nafin River of the Four Corners" is the most prominent feature in the area of NAFUNA with its Baroque character in Rome. The history of this river dates back to the seventeenth century. Heavy rains caused abundant floods that flowed into a canal for water extraction in Rome, which led to reaching the famous Nafin usually cleaned later.

The rains that fell in recent days caused a delay in draining the water in the Traiano Canal that transports the water from Lake Bracciano to Rome. The flowing water flooded the ancient Nafin where the gardens of the Viterbo and the Gardens of Farnese are fed from the water canal.

The municipality stated that immediate measures have been taken to limit the damage and maintain the cleanliness of the water bodies and monitor the situation. As clarified by the "A.S.I.A." company that manages the canal, the heavy rains caused a significant rise in the water levels in the canal.

The Nafin was reopened to visitors last December after a cleaning operation that took several months, but the municipality assured that the flowing water will not leave any impact after cleaning the bodies of water anew.
