Málaga Delegation Meets with the Pope in Rome

A Andalusian delegation met with Pope Francis in the Vatican to discuss the procession of the Jubilee of the Brotherhoods, highlighting values such as family and birth rate.


A delegation from Malaga, accompanied by the councilors of the Junta de Andalucía Carolina España and Patricia del Pozo, was received at the Vatican by the Pope to discuss the upcoming procession of the images of the Most Holy Christ of the Expiration from Seville and the Virgin of Hope from Malaga in Rome on May 17, as part of the Ordinary Jubilee of the Brotherhoods organized by the Holy See.

During the audience, topics such as the values of today's society, family, birth rates, and the character of Andalusians were discussed. This event expects to attract thousands of people from Spain, Latin America, and Europe to witness the images at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Visits to the tomb of Saint Peter and the veneration of the Andalusian images of El Cachorro and the Virgin of Hope will be allowed.

The Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, the president of the Diputación, Francisco Salado, and the director of the Unicaja Foundation, Sergio Corral, met with Pope Francis in Rome to invite him to visit Malaga and experience its Holy Week. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining popular religiosity in southern Spain.

The Pope shared reflections on the importance of family, birth rates, equality, and the significant role of women in the Holy See. An agreement was signed to collaborate on the Jubilee 2025 and the Great Procession of the Jubilee of the Brotherhoods, where the Most Holy Christ of the Expiration and the Virgin of Hope will be highlighted.

The Jubilee in Rome will take place from May 16 to 18, with a Great Procession that will start from the Colosseum to the Circus Maximus. A mass will also be celebrated in St. Peter's Square officiated by Pope Francis. The world will be attentive to this historic event that promises to be unique for Rome and Andalusia.
