Seismic Activity in Pozzuoli Following Earthquake

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook the Italian volcanic chain of the Campi Flegrei, near the city of Naples. Although it did not cause significant damage, it caused panic among the local population and led several people to leave their homes as a precaution.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology reported that the tremor occurred at around 1:25 AM local time, at a depth of two kilometers. Although some structural collapses and damage to properties and vehicles were reported, the general situation in Pozzuoli, where the epicenter was located along with Bagnoli, was said to not present serious problems according to Mayor Luigi Manzoni.

In the area, firefighters intervened in Pozzuoli after the roof of a house collapsed, rescuing an individual with minor injuries. In other areas, such as Bagnoli, reported falls of debris onto parked vehicles, without causing any injuries. Some people were trapped in their homes and were rescued by firefighters.

The mayor of Pozzuoli stated that safety measures were activated, preparing waiting areas and a center in Monterusciello for those who preferred not to remain in their homes. Although constant monitoring is being maintained in the region, no serious situations have been presented so far beyond the initial scare caused by the strong tremor.
