Milan, March 14 (NA) – Inter Milan drew 1-1 at home against Atalanta in a match corresponding to the 29th matchday of Serie A, opening up a very good opportunity for its runner-up, Milan.
Inter had taken the lead in the first half through Italian forward Pio Esposito, but Montenegrin forward Nikola Krstovic equalized the match with less than 10 minutes left.
Esposito's goal came in the 26th minute thanks to a cross-shot and a very weak response from the opposing goalkeeper, Marco Carnesecchi, after a good offensive recovery by Inter that resulted in an assist from Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella.
When it seemed everything was heading towards a great triumph for Inter, which was taking a key step on its way to the title, Atalanta's equalizing goal arrived in the 37th minute of the second half.
With this draw, Inter still has not recovered from the hard blows it suffered in recent weeks due to its elimination in the Champions League playoffs against Norway's Bodo/Glimt and the defeat against its rival, Milan, in the last matchday of the Italian championship.
According to the Argentine News Agency, the team led by Romanian coach Cristian Chivu reached 68 points and an eight-point lead over its runner-up, Milan, although the latter team has one game less.
Atalanta, for its part, is seventh with 47 points and is not losing ground to the teams that are in positions to qualify for next season's international competitions.
