Inter took the lead in the 16th minute thanks to a goal from Polish midfielder Piotr Zieliński, who volleyed home from a Hakan Çalhanoğlu corner. The hosts equalized in the 40th minute through a goal from Brazilian striker Giovanni, who struck from inside the penalty area following a pass from Nigerian midfielder Ghivin Orban. The visitors snatched the win in stoppage time when Nicolò Barella crossed the ball, and Verona defender Martin Freyzi turned it into his own net with his head. This is Inter's second consecutive win of the season, lifting them to 21 points, just one point behind Napoli. In contrast, Verona suffered their second consecutive defeat and remain stuck on five points in 18th place. Inter's coach, Simone Inzaghi, noted that his team is gaining momentum and his messages are getting through to the players. Piotr Zieliński commented on the victory: "We were a bit lucky.
