The Italian prosecutor announced yesterday that they intend to prosecute the investigation into tax evasion against Google after the company agreed to pay a global sum of 326 million euros (340 million dollars). The investigation was opened by the prosecutor's office in Milan due to unpaid income taxes in Italy for the period from 2015 to 2019, with particular focus on income from advertising sales.
"Google" acknowledged the fact of the global agreement in its statement, noting that it conducts "tax restructuring... without judicial consideration" for the period from 2015 to 2020, which differs from the period indicated by the prosecutor, without explanation of the reasons. This case received widespread resonance and attracted media attention, especially after Google insisted on its refusal of the global sum; however, it seems that the company found in paying this sum a solution for closing the case and preventing its further development in the near future.
