AC Milan squandered an early lead and suffered a harsh 2-1 defeat to Bologna in a rescheduled Serie A match that was originally supposed to be played in October but was postponed due to devastating floods in the Emilia-Romagna region.
The match started promisingly for the 'Rossoneri', who took the lead in the 43rd minute thanks to a goal from Rafael Leão, who capitalized on a precise pass from Mexican Santiago Giménez to beat the opposing goalkeeper.
Despite the loss, Mexican forward Santiago Giménez had a standout performance by actively participating in Milan's goal. In the final minutes, Bologna took advantage of a defensive lapse from Milan, and in the 82nd minute, Dan Ndoye scored the winning goal for the home team, setting the final score at 2-1.
The lead was not sufficient, as just after the start of the second half, Bologna equalized 1-1 with a goal that came from a rebound in the area that Argentine forward Santiago Castro took advantage of, pushing the ball into the back of the net after a poorly cleared free kick.
With this defeat, Milan remained stuck in eighth place in Serie A, while Bologna climbed to sixth place, improving their hopes of qualifying for European competitions.
"The Mexican player has continued to show his great ability to create dangerous plays, and this assist was a clear demonstration of his potential."
Although Castro's goal was controversial due to a possible handball by one of Bologna's players, VAR validated the play, and the goal was official.
Milan is going through a difficult time, but Santiago Giménez's outstanding performance, with his assist and good level on the field, keeps hopes alive for improvement in upcoming matches.
