Bologna advanced to the semifinals of the Coppa Italia by defeating Atalanta 1-0 with a goal from Santiago Castro, a 25-year-old Argentine forward from Vélez Sarsfield. The match was decided in the 35th minute of the second half when Castro headed in a cross from a free kick to secure his team's victory.
Benjamín Domínguez, another Argentine on the Bologna roster, also participated in the match, which was overseen by Vincenzo Italiano. Bologna's next opponent in the competition will be the winner of the match between Juventus and Empoli.
Castro's goal was enough to eliminate Atalanta from the Coppa Italia, whose forward Mateo Retegui started but was substituted by Daniel Maldini in the 59th minute. Bologna, currently seventh in Serie A, will face Lecce in their next match on Sunday.
As for Atalanta, managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, they will play against Hellas Verona the following Saturday. Castro, with his star performance, was decisive for Bologna to advance to the next round in the Coppa Italia and is now preparing to face new challenges in Serie A.
